If your concrete driveway is getting older, it can have problems, such as cracks, holes, and more. Some problems can be difficult to deal with and will only become worse. You may be considering replacing the driveway with a new one. Instead, you can save a lot of money by choosing concrete restoration. Below is information on how concrete restoration is done.
Concrete Restoration
Concrete restoration is also known as concrete resurfacing. This is something you may be able to do yourself if you do not see a lot of damage. If you do, contact a professional company to do this restoration for you. You also need to have the right tools to do the job correctly and the right products. The process the contractor will take during the restoration process includes:
Make Repairs
The first thing that is done during the restoration process is all damage is repaired. If there are cracks on the driveway, they can be repaired by using a filler and/or sealer to fill in the cracks. If there are holes on the driveway, a patching mix made of concrete can be used to fill in the holes.
Clean the Driveway
Once all repairs are made and the fillers and/or patching mix are completely dry, the contractor will then clean the driveway. Your driveway likely has a lot of dirt built up on it, may have oil from cars, etc., as well as other debris on the surface. They will first sweep the driveway to remove any loose dirt. The company will likely use a pressure washer to clean the driveway. This will make things go much faster. The driveway needs to be clean so the concrete coating will adhere much better.
Prepare the Concrete
Once the driveway is repaired and cleaned, the contractor will prepare the concrete surface. This is an essential part of the process as this will allow the coating to bond with the concrete much better. To do this, they use an acid wash or may grind or etch the concrete with a type of sander. Once they are finished, the driveway will need to be swept again if the grinder or etcher was used.
Apply the Concrete Coating
The contractor will first mix the materials, which are a resin and a hardener. Once the mixture is finished, the contractor uses a trowel to spread the concrete overlay onto the driveway. They let the first coat completely dry and then will apply a second coat. After a certain amount of time, they will seal the driveway with a concrete sealer to complete the process.
When the contractor is finished, your driveway will look brand new again and last much longer.
